The Cité de Carcassonne is a medieval citadel located in the French city of Carcassonne, It is situated on a hill on the right bank of the River Aude & was restored at the end of the 19th century. In 1997 it was added to the UNESCO list of world heritage sites. The Cité, with its cobbled streets and Gothic cathedral, exudes an almost fairy-tale aura, especially when illuminated at night.
