Clonmacnoise was founded in 544 by St. Ciarán, a young man from Rathcroghan. In the modern day, the site stands as a preserved ruin under the management of the Office of Public Works. The site includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches, two round towers, three high crosses and a large collection of Early Christian graveslabs. -from Wikipedia
