Cox Ford Covered Bridge
This 1913 Burr arch covered bridge spans Sugar Creek in a deeply wooded stretch of Parke County, one of the most covered-bridge-dense counties in the United States. The warm red-brown weathered wood and white portal lettering contrast beautifully against the surrounding forest canopy, and the creek below offers strong reflections when the water is calm. Position yourself downstream on the rocky bank to capture the bridge framing the water with overhanging trees on either side, or shoot from inside the bridge looking out toward the dappled light beyond the portal for a classic tunnel perspective. Early morning on an overcast day gives you even, soft light that brings out the texture of the aged wood without harsh shadows. Fall color peaks in mid to late October and makes this one of the best times to visit. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most compositions well here.
