Cryder Beach

Cryder Beach is a quiet, uncrowded stretch of sand on Long Island's South Fork, where the lack of development keeps the scene clean and undistracted. The beach roses lining the dune path make for a strong foreground element as you walk in, so consider shooting back toward the dunes during golden hour when the blooms catch warm light. For wider compositions, face west along the shoreline at sunset, when the sky typically delivers rich color reflecting off the wet sand at the water's edge. A wide angle lens works well for expansive sky shots, while a short telephoto lets you compress the dunes and grasses into layered textures. Keep in mind that village parking permits are required in the lot, so plan to park on a nearby street and walk in. Arriving early gives you the best chance of having the beach to yourself.
