About Czocha Castle (Zamek Czocha)
Czocha Castle rises above Lake Leśna. It was originally built in the thirteenth century as a border fortress on the northern edge of Bohemia. The lake below is a reservoir made in 1905 when a river was dammed just downstream. So the water in every photograph of this castle is barely a century old. Since this castle sits so on a hilltop there are many amazing vantage points to suit your shooting style. From down on the lake view, boats run during the warmer seasons giving an amazing view looking up to highlight the castles size. You could venture over to the far shore and capture the whole building as it sits above the trees with its reflection underneath. If you are lucky enough to captyre the mist on the reservoir in autumn you can give your compositions a whole different feel. Up close, the courtyards, bridge and the round tower are all strong shooting subjects while you explore the grounds. Inside, the rooms are only open as part of a guided tour. The tour covers the armoury, the library, the tower and a series of hidden passages. Plus portions of it run as a hotel now, so you can stay the night inside the walls. Tours are ticketed and run at various times throughout the day so make sure to book ahead if you want to explore the interior. (Sucha, Lower Silesia, Poland)
