At the top of the Dachstein Glacier cable car, three breathtaking viewpoint options have been built onto the mountain station at around 2700 metres. The Skywalk is a soaring balcony stretching out over the sheer rock face with a glass section in the floor. Hängebrücke is a unique suspension bridge that runs from the station across to a rocky outcrop with stunning views in all directions. After crossing the bridge you can head down to the Treppe ins Nichts observation deck (a glass platform set 400 metres above the base of the wall). The far side of the bridge offers many vantage points to shoot the bridge itself, the stairway with the drop and the far peaks sprawling out behind them. The summits of the Dachstein ridge sit to the northwest, and the glacier spreads out below. On a clear day you can see deep into the Alps. Clouds often sit below the platforms adding a peaceful vibe to your compositions. The early or late in the day cable car runs will give you softer light. You can only get up here on the Dachstein Glacier cable car from Ramsau am Dachstein. The cable car requires a ticket and only runs on a seasonal schedule so its best to look into buying those in advance when you are planning your photography adventure.
