Djúpavíkurfoss drops dramatically down the steep cliffs directly behind the small village of Djúpavík, framing perfectly against the rusted corrugated walls of the abandoned herring factory below. The combination of raw industrial decay and wild natural beauty is what makes this place genuinely special, and you can work that contrast from multiple positions along the shoreline or the road running through the village. A wide angle lens suits the scene well, letting you include the factory, the waterfall, and the surrounding fjord in a single frame. Overcast days are ideal since the soft diffused light controls contrast across the dark cliffs and weathered metal surfaces. The hike up the mountainside opens up sweeping compositions looking back down over the entire fjord and settlement. The village is extremely remote on the Strandir coast, so plan fuel and supplies in advance. (Djúpavík, Westfjords, Iceland)
