This abandoned church is one of the few buildings left at Estacado, a nearly vanished settlement on the South Plains east of Lubbock. Estacado was started by Quaker families in 1879 and has slowly faded to almost nothing. The church sits by itself in open grassland slowly falling into disrepair as the paint peels off its gabled front. You can easily shoot the church as a small centrepiece in a wide frame, giving most of the picture to the plains and sky. There is nothing around it so the feeling of emptiness will be captured in any composition. There is lots of space to experiment with moving in close on the worn walls, the plain door, and the small windows. The plains skies out here get huge, so watch for good storm clouds that will add a haunted, eerie vibe to your shooting. It's right along E Quinnipiac Ave, so its very easy to find out on the open road. The building is abandoned and the land looks like private farmland, so make sure to shoot from the public roadside.
