Factory Butte, Utah
Factory Butte is a dramatic desert landmark rising starkly from the barren terrain of the Colorado Plateau. This isolated, flat-topped sandstone peak surrounded by extensive, bluish-grey hills completely lacking any vegetation provides photographers with a wealth of opportunities to capture its grandeur. The surrounding badlands feature intricate textures and colors, making it an excellent location for both wide-angle and abstract compositions. Sunrise and sunset offer particularly stunning lighting, enhancing the butte’s rugged contours and the vibrant hues of the desert. While accessible by dirt roads, high-clearance vehicles are recommended to navigate the area. Nearby are delicate, eroded rock formations and unusual, slot-like ravines, plus newly-popularized locations like Moonscape Overlook, Dark Spire and Swing Arm City. (Hanksville, Utah, USA)
