Faro De Navidad

This compact red and white lighthouse sits at the entrance to Cartagena Harbour, its bold painted stripes making it one of the more graphically striking lighthouses along the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The contrast between the vivid painted bands and the grey concrete promenade gives you strong compositional material, especially when you use the harbour walkway as a leading line drawing the eye toward the tower. Shoot from low and close to exaggerate the height of the structure, or step back to include the surrounding harbour and water for context. Golden hour light hits the red and white paint beautifully, adding warmth without losing the colour contrast. A wide angle lens works well for environmental shots, while a short telephoto lets you isolate the lantern room against the sky.
