Field of Corn

Field of Corn is a striking public art installation in Dublin where 109 oversized concrete corn sculptures stand in neat rows across a manicured lawn, each reaching eight feet tall. The repetition and scale make it immediately compelling for photography. Walking between the rows gives you strong leading lines and a sense of scale; crouching low and shooting upward with a wide angle lens emphasizes how imposing the sculptures are against the sky. A longer focal length lets you compress the rows into a dense, graphic pattern from the field's edge. Overcast days work especially well here since soft diffused light eliminates harsh shadows and brings out the texture of the concrete surfaces. Golden hour adds warm tones and long shadows that enhance the geometry of the rows. The site is easily accessible with a small parking area nearby, and you can move freely throughout the installation. (Dublin, Ohio, United States)
