Former Camp Picton
Camp Picton was originally built in 1940 as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). Seven hundred and one acres of land on the outskirts of Picton became the home of the Royal Air Force (RAF) where many young British, Canadian and American men trained as combat pilots. After World War II, the site was used as a storage and equipment maintenance centre for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Later, the Royal Canadian School of Artillery (anti-aircraft) took over the site. The site had been sitting unused for a number of years and recently portions of it have been refurbished to use for local businesses and a military museum. The grounds are a unique mix of abandoned, refurbished and new builds. (Picton, Ontario)
