Fort Vancouver Land Bridge

Fort Vancouver Land Bridge - Photo by Huck’s Pics1 / 1

This sweeping pedestrian bridge arcs over State Route 14 and connects Fort Vancouver's historic grounds to the Columbia River waterfront, offering a surprisingly rich mix of subjects in one walkable location. The bridge's curved form works well as a leading line, drawing the eye toward the river, and on clear days you can frame Mount Hood rising in the distance beyond the water. A wide angle lens lets you capture the full sweep of the structure alongside the native plantings that line the walkway, while a longer focal length is useful for compressing Mount Hood against the river. Morning light is ideal, with soft illumination coming in from the east and fewer people on the bridge; blue hour can also work well for long exposures with highway traffic trails below. Parking is available near the Fort Vancouver visitor center, and the bridge is open year-round with no fee to access. (Vancouver, Washington, United States)
