Forte di Capopassero was originally built by the Crown of Spain for combating the activities of pirates. The fort sits on the highest point of the island and rests on a massive portion of that limestone that characterizes the island, giving it an imposing view over the surrounding bay. Isola di Capo Passero is a fish-shaped island is a natural oasis basking just 250 meters from the southern Sicily coast. It also once housed the old tuna fishing warehouses, where nets were stored. It is now a haven for birds and marine life who revel in the clean sea and undisturbed atmosphere. (Isola di Capo Passero, Sicily, Italy)
