Furka Pass
Furka Pass is a high-altitude Alpine road at 2,429 metres that cuts through some of Switzerland's most dramatic mountain scenery, offering sweeping views of jagged peaks, snow-dusted ridgelines, and the striking Rhône Glacier below. The road's tight switchbacks are your greatest compositional asset; position yourself above a series of curves and use a telephoto lens to compress the layers of tarmac, rock, and sky into a single frame. A wide angle works well closer to the glacier viewpoint, where you can anchor the foreground with weathered road markings or stone barriers. Early morning gives you the clearest light and thinnest traffic, which matters a lot on a road this narrow. Midday can deliver strong contrast across the snowfields if the sky is clear. Park carefully in designated pull-offs and watch for cyclists and motorcyclists who use this route heavily in summer. (Obergoms, Valais, Switzerland)
