The Gamaksan Suspension Bridge is an eye catching red footbridge stretching out across a wooded valley. That red against a full valley of trees creates amazing contrast, making it quite photogenic at whatever time of year you are here. Autumn brings an amazing wall of colour, while during spring/summer the bridge is surrounded by rich green tones. Winter creates a completely differet shooting experience because the bare branches let you capture the whole span cleanly. Walking out to the middle and shoot back along the deck lets you feature the cables and handrails leading the eye toward the far end, or use the approach steps for a side view on the span itself with a forest background. Getting here takes a bit of planning. Paju is well north of Seoul (an hour and a half away), so most visitors come by car or as part of a DMZ day tour. From the parking lot it's around ten minute walk up a staircase, so no real hike involved. It's best to plan to visit on a weekday because weekends, especially in autumn, can leave people queuing on those stairs for hours. The trails carry on up Gamaksan from the far side if you want to make a morning of it. (Paju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea)
