Carved by the Penna River over millions of years, Gandikota Canyon is one of India's most dramatic natural landscapes, earning its reputation as the Grand Canyon of India through sheer scale and color. From the viewpoint at the fort's edge, you look out over layered red and orange gorge walls dropping sharply to the river below, with the ruins of Gandikota Fort adding foreground interest and historical texture. Position yourself along the cliff edge to capture the canyon's full depth, or use the fort's crumbling walls as a natural frame. Sunrise is the prime window here, when warm light floods the gorge and mist occasionally sits in the valley; the same conditions make it one of South India's better spots for astrophotography, well away from city light pollution. The site is accessible by road, and a wide-angle lens between 16mm and 24mm works well for capturing the canyon's full breadth. (Gandikota, Andhra Pradesh, India)
