About Gateway Bridge

The Gateway Bridge is actually a pair of huge concrete road bridges over the Brisbane River, sitting on the eastern edge of Brisbane. The eastern span has a pedestrian path down one side, so you can walk or ride the 2.8 km across and capture amazing views up above the city. Looking to the southwest, the CBD towers stack up behind the river bend. Turn the other way and you get the port, the river mouth and Moreton Bay. Brisbane Airport is right there to the north, so planes come over low and if you are patient enough you can line one up against the skyline with a long lens. Down at ground level, Murarrie Recreation Hub sits under the southern end which lets you get right under the bridges along the shoreline. The path is free and open all hours, so stay for the lights coming on. Just check the date for the Bridge to Brisbane run in September, when the whole thing closes to everyone but runners.
