The Große Olympiaschanze is a striking ski jump structure rising above the rooftops of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with its sleek white inrun tower cutting a dramatic diagonal line against the Bavarian Alps backdrop. You can photograph it from the valley below for wide establishing shots that include the surrounding mountains, or hike closer to capture the engineering details of the latticed steel tower and the steep outrun ramp. A wide-angle lens works well for showing the full scale of the structure in its alpine context, while a telephoto lets you compress the tower against the peaks behind it. Overcast days soften harsh shadows on the metalwork and give the white structure even contrast, though golden hour light from the east in the morning catches the tower beautifully. The jump is accessible from central Garmisch on foot, and the area around the landing hill gives you unobstructed low angles that emphasize its imposing height.
