Halde Haniel
Halde Haniel is a giant stockpile that has been turned into an amazing series of trails. You can circle the hill following various routes learning about mining history and taking in the incredible views. Once you reach the summit there is an area dedicated to the Stations of the Cross with the Pope wooden cross (dedicated to Pope John Paul II's), and a series of 105 colorfully designed railway sleepers (totems). On a clear day, you can see very far over the Ruhr Valley. (Bottrop, Germany)
