Harker House sits on the corner of Lake Avenue and 3rd Street in Storm Lake, and is a photogenic 1875 brick home. It has the full set of features that this historical style is known for: a mansard roof with dormers, a small tower, hooded windows, and decorative porches. The brick was made locally and the foundation is boulders pulled from the lakeshore. The Lake Avenue face looks east, so morning light comes in over the street and lands square on the front. A longer lens lets you isolate the tower and lets you include the historical marker on the corner porch to add context in a frame. The house is a museum now, run by a local foundation, with inside tours on a limited schedule in summer. You can easily photograph the exterior any time from the public sidewalk.
