Hatcher Pass near Willow is one of those places where you can cover a lot of different looks in a single outing, from wide alpine views to smaller details tucked into the tundra. The road winds through rolling mountains, rocky ridges, and open valleys, with plenty of pull offs where you can stop and shoot without much effort. In late summer and early fall, the tundra starts to change color, adding some really nice tones to the landscape, while lingering snow and shifting weather can bring a bit of mood to your shots. You also have structures, like the Independence Mine and Hatcher Pass Lodge, nearby if you want to mix in some architectural elements. Light can change quickly up here, but that is part of the appeal, especially if you catch low clouds moving through the peaks. It is an easy place to explore at your own pace and find compositions that suit your style. (Willow, Alaska, USA)
