About Heidsee
Heidsee is a peaceful alpine lake that uniquely has a dam that splits it into a big northern basin and a much smaller southern one. A scenic path circles the whole way round giving you lots of space to experiment with compositions to match your shooting style. Stätzerhorn rises to the west and Lenzerhorn to the east, so you get a mountain backdrop from where ever you choose to set up. Plan on coming early if you are looking for still water and reflection photography. Morning sun clears the eastern ridge and brings light the Stätzerhorn side, which shoots well from the east shoreline. Late in the day it flips so there is always nice light on atleast one side of the lake. Marsh and bog run along part of the shore, and tufted ducks breed here. In winter it freezes solid and the whole basin turns white, changing the feel of your compositions completely and making it fun to visit in various seasons. In the afternoon the paddle boarders spread out over the lake making a unique addition to your landscape photography. (Vaz/Obervaz, Graubünden, Switzerland)
