Hinterer Langbathsee
Hinterer Langbathsee is a secluded alpine lake tucked deep into the Salzkammergut mountains, reached by a forested trail from the more visited Vorderer Langbathsee. The payoff is remarkable: glassy water reflecting jagged peaks and dense fir trees, with far fewer visitors than the region's more famous lakes. The eastern shoreline gives you classic reflection shots with the mountain ridgeline centered in frame, while shooting from the water's edge at the far end of the lake puts the forest in your foreground and the peaks behind. Early morning is ideal when mist still sits on the surface and the light is soft and directional. Bring a wide-angle lens for expansive landscape compositions and a tripod for long exposures that smooth out any surface ripple. The trail in is unpaved but manageable, and the extra walk keeps crowds minimal even in peak season. (Ebensee, Upper Austria, Austria)
