Hochosterwitz Castle
Burg Hochosterwitz is a medieval fortress dramatically perched atop a limestone hill in Carinthia, rising 160 meters above the surrounding countryside. With its 14 fortified gates leading up to the main castle, it presents an impressive architectural silhouette that’s especially photogenic from below, showcasing its unique profile against the sky. Photographers can capture sweeping panoramas of the landscape from the castle’s ramparts, as well as detailed shots of its stone towers, courtyards, and historic interiors. The castle is open seasonally from spring to autumn, and accessible via a steep walking path or a funicular railway. Early morning and late afternoon light enhances the textures and contours of the structure, making it a prime spot for both landscape and architectural photography. (Launsdorf, Austria)
