Iadolina Waterfall is a peaceful multi-step cascade in the Iadului Valley (Valea Iadului) in the Apuseni Mountains of northwest Romania. The water drops over several tiers, pouring between boulders and collecting in narrow, deep pools before continuing downstream. The whole scene is framed by dense forest on both sides of the valley, giving it a wild, enclosed feel. The waterfall sits just off of County Road DJ 108J with a maintained path from the roadside. (It is important to stay on the path because the terrain off it is steep and dangerous.) Because the waterfall sits below road level, your shooting angle naturally looks up or across at the falls, which helps emphasize the size of the boulders and the layered flow of the water. A polarizing filter helps cut glare off the wet rock and pools, and a longer exposure will smooth the water across the steps for that classic cascade look. The valley stays shaded through much of the day, so you get soft, even light that suits waterfall photography without harsh contrast. Spring and early summer bring the strongest water flow, which fills out the tiers and adds energy to the scene. (Remeți, Bihor County, Romania)
