About Isolotto di San Clemente
The small Isolotto di San Clemente, situated just off the shore in Lake Lesina in Apulia, is Italy’s only lake island and a fascinating destination for photographers. Once home to a church dedicated to the Holy Martyr Clement, built on Roman foundations and later destroyed during a Saracen invasion, the island still carries traces of its layered history. A wooden walkway now connects the shore to the ruins, allowing visitors to explore the site and capture views of the surviving stonework and the iron cross that rises protectively above the waters. The island’s solitude, combined with the surrounding lagoon and shifting light, creates a mysterious and atmospheric setting best photographed at sunrise or sunset. (Lesina, Apulia, Italy)
