Italian Chapel
The Italian Chapel, located on the island of Lamb Holm in Orkney, is a unique and emotive photographic site built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II. Constructed inside two Nissen huts, the chapel features an intricately painted interior that contrasts strikingly with its humble exterior. Photographers are drawn to the site's emotional depth, historic significance, and remarkable craftsmanship, which includes hand-painted frescoes, wrought iron fittings, and religious iconography. The chapel is accessible via the Churchill Barriers and is best photographed in soft daylight or during golden hour to highlight its textures and colors. This serene location, surrounded by open sky and sea, also offers opportunities for minimalist landscape compositions. (Lamb Holm, Orkney, Scotland)
