The Jussowtempel sits photogenically on a tiny island in the Fountain Pond of Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. Built in 1818 and modelled on the temple in Stowe England, this criso white pavilion really stands out against its lush green surroundings. The calm pond reflecting the columns, the wooded slope, and the Hercules monument sitting on the ridge high above all work together to create some amazing compositions. Standing on the eastern side of the pond gives you the space to experiment with looking uphill to stack all three into a single frame. Mornings are calmest here. Arriving early gives you lots of time to experiment with the reflection before the breeze and the crowds show up. From May into early October the park's historic water features runs, finishing with a tall fountain that erupts from the pond right beside the temple. Timing your visit around that allows you to play around with capturing drama instead of stillness. A small stone bridge crosses to the island, which makes close work on the columns easy. The park is free to wander at any hour. Parking often fills quickly on fountain days, so you may want to arrive early. Wedding couples adore this spot, so a weekday visit may give you cleaner angles and more space to experiment with various compositions. (Kassel, Hesse, Germany)
