Hundreds of padlocks cover the fences on the Kallison Love Lock Walk Bridge, as it crosses the San Antonio River as part of the scenic River Walk. Couples write their names and dates on the locks, then toss the keys into the river below. The bridge's two fenced walls have become a layered mix of brass, steel and bright colours. If you get close to a row of locks, a wide aperture will help you pick out a single engraved lock while softening everything else behind it into a blur of metal and colour. If you prefer a wider frame, you can stand at one end and shoot down the length of the fence so the locks stack into an amazing leading line. Polished metal throws hard glare in direct sun, and that glare will wash out the handwriting or decorations on the locks. It will make your job much easier if you come on an overcast day or while the bridge sits in shade. After you are finished shooting on the bridge you can head down to the River Walk. River barges board just below the bridge and from the water's edge (with a bit of patience) you can frame the bridge overhead with a barge passing underneath.
