Kannesteinen is a remarkable mushroom-shaped boulder on the Norwegian coast, carved by centuries of wave erosion into a narrow pedestal topped with a wide, rounded cap. The rock sits right at the shoreline, and the best compositions put it front and center with the open sea or rugged coastline in the background. A wide angle lens works well here, especially when you get low to the water level to exaggerate the pedestal shape and emphasize the rock against the sky or breaking waves. Shooting at low tide gives you more foreground to work with, including wet rocks and reflective pools that add depth to the frame. Overcast light softens harsh shadows and brings out the texture of the stone, though golden hour adds warmth and drama. The site is easy to reach via a short walk from the roadside parking area.
