Kellys Beach Boardwalk is an amazing gem stretching out over the salt marsh and a shallow lagoon to reach a barrier island in the heart of Kouchibouguac National Park. The boardwalk creates an amazing mix of viewpoints. It runs straight for long stretches and bends at others, with the rails and posts drawing your eye out over the grass, and since the deck sits above the marsh you can shoot along it with nothing in the way. Ideally try to go early, partly for an empty walkway and partly because the coast faces east, so the sun comes up over the water and behind the dunes. Tide changes what's underneath you. When its high tide the lagoon fills and creates reflections right up to the pilings, and during low tide the water breaks into channels and flats with birds feeding. Once you're across the lagoon, the sand stretches out of sight both ways with rolling dunes. Terns nest here in large numbers and seals often hang out just offshore. Plovers nest on the beach as well, so parts get roped off through summer during nesting season. Since the boardwalk is part of the National Park you will usually need a park pass to access this area.
