Kinnoull Hill Tower
Perched on a sheer cliff edge above the River Tay, Kinnoull Hill Tower is a 19th-century castellated folly that looks as though it was lifted straight from a Romantic painting. The tower's ruined stonework, battlements, and arches frame beautifully against the wide sweep of the Tay valley below, giving you both an architectural subject and a sweeping landscape in a single composition. Shoot from slightly to the side to show the cliff drop and river beyond, or move back into the treeline to use the branches as a natural frame around the tower. Golden hour light in the late afternoon catches the warm sandstone well, and misty mornings add genuine atmosphere to the scene. The site is reached via wooded trails through Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park; wear sturdy footwear as paths can be muddy. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing both the tower and the valley panorama. (Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland)
