Kristiansand Cathedral is a striking Neo-Gothic church completed in 1885, rising above the surrounding city grid with its tall tower and pale stone facade. The symmetrical front elevation is the strongest compositional subject, and you get the cleanest view by stepping back toward the open square in front of the entrance, where a wide or standard zoom in the 24-50mm range lets you capture the full height without excessive distortion. Shooting in the early morning gives you soft, even light on the facade with minimal crowds, while overcast days work particularly well for architecture since harsh shadows disappear and the pale stonework holds detail. For a more dramatic perspective, move to one of the side corners and use the converging lines of the building to add depth. The cathedral sits in central Kristiansand and is easily accessible on foot from the main shopping streets. (Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway)
