Kualoa Point stretches out into Kaneohe Bay as a narrow sandy peninsula, giving you sweeping 180-degree views of the water, the dramatic Ko'olau mountain range behind you, and the iconic Mokoli'i Island (the small cone-shaped islet once called Chinaman's Hat) sitting just offshore. The combination of calm turquoise water, volcanic peaks, and that distinctive islet makes almost any direction you point your camera worthwhile. Shoot from the tip of the point to frame Mokoli'i with open bay water and mountains in the background, or turn landward to use the peninsula itself as a leading line toward the ridgeline. Early morning light is ideal, with soft golden tones hitting the mountains and glassy water before the wind picks up. A wide-angle lens handles the expansive scenery well, though a short telephoto helps isolate Mokoli'i against the peaks. Parking is available at Kualoa Regional Park nearby, and the walk to the point is short and flat. (Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii)
