Lacs de Fenêtre, above Orsières near the Swiss-Italian border, is one of those spots that feels a bit more remote and peaceful compared to some of the busier alpine locations. The area is made up of a few small mountain lakes set among rocky terrain and gentle slopes, with surrounding peaks adding a nice sense of scale without overwhelming the scene. It is a great place to work on clean alpine compositions, especially when the water is calm enough to pick up reflections. The hike in gives you a steady build up with plenty of smaller details along the way, and once you reach the lakes, it opens up into a quiet basin that is easy to explore. Light in the early morning or later in the day tends to work best, giving softer tones across the rocks and water.
