Le Gabriel Restaurant

Le Gabriel Restaurant is an eye catching gem sitting right on Main Street in Chéticamp at the western foot of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. You'll spot it before you read the sign, because the entrance is a bright red and white lighthouse. The Doucet family runs it and focuses on serving Acadian dishes like fricot and pâté à la viande alongside maritime classics like lobster and crab. As a shooting subject it's simple and straightforward. Cross the street and shoot low against the sky so the tower fills the frame against a rich blue sky. Chéticamp sits on the Gulf of St. Lawrence side of the island, so evening light through the village goes warm and low. That's when the red will really pop. There's free parking on site, and the exterior is on a public street, so nothing stops you capturing it on your way through town. Inside is a working restaurant and lounge with live music most evenings, so ask before you photograph inside.
