About Lick Creek Summit
The Lick Creek Summit sits along a quiet gravel road threading through subalpine forest in the Idaho backcountry, in the mountains between Beaverdam and Sawtooth Peaks, near Yellow Pine. Lick Creek Rd is a high pass that winds deep into Payette National Forest with granite peaks on every side. Beaverdam Peak, a steep pyramid of pale grey rock, rises right above the road, and the ridges around it are lined with rocky towers and big blocks. Old wildfires have left silver tree trunks standing among the new green growth, and make great contrast within your compositions. Early morning and evening are the best light up here. Low sun warms up the grey granite and brings out all its cracks and texture. There's plenty of room to park along the gravel road at the summit. Snow usually closes the road from late fall into early summer, depending on when the snow melts each spring. Plan some extra time to explore the Duck Lake trail since it is is just a little further along the road. McCall, Idaho, United States)
