Shoot wide to include the full sweep of the bay, or get low and close to emphasize the black sand texture in the foreground with the palm silhouetted against the sky. Sunrise and golden hour light work beautifully here, especially when the sky goes warm and reflects off the wet sand near the waterline. To reach it, park along Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway and hike across the lava field, wearing sturdy shoes as the terrain is sharp and uneven.
