Out in the rural countryside just north of the village of Longstreet this plain wooden schoolhouse is one of the last Rosenwald schools still standing in the state. Built in 1924, it was one of hundreds of schools across the South funded through the Rosenwald program and it is now a rare survivor listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a simple single-story rural school that is the perfect subject for rural and historic themed photography. The front faces east, so morning is the best time to shoot it, when the warm light washes across the white boards. You can place it square and centred in the fram to lean into a historic/documentary feel, or shoot it from an angle with the open rural setting and big Louisiana sky overhead. The school sits back from the road on its own ground and is easy to photograph from a variety of locations around the grounds. It currently serves as a community center, so the interior is not usually open unless there are local events going on. (Longstreet, Louisiana, USA)
