This ornate 1931 movie palace on South Broadway is one of the most lavishly decorated interiors in Los Angeles, with soaring gilded ceilings, crystal chandeliers, mirrored walls, and a grand central staircase that draws immediate comparisons to Versailles. The space is almost entirely interior photography, so fast glass or a sturdy tripod is essential since lighting inside can be dim and uneven. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range lets you capture the full sweep of the lobby ceiling and staircase, while a longer focal length isolates ornate details in the ironwork and plasterwork. Look for symmetry along the central axis of the staircase and shoot upward to emphasize the scale. The theater is not regularly open to the public, so your best access comes through scheduled tours, film shoots, or special events. Check the Los Angeles Conservancy for tour dates.
