Spanning the Mississippi River in north Minneapolis, the Lowry Avenue Bridge is a steel tied-arch structure best known for its programmable LED lighting system, which washes the arches in vivid color after dark and makes for striking long-exposure shots. From the riverbanks below, you can frame the illuminated arch against the night sky with the river's reflection doubling the color in the water. The Winlock Park boat launch on the east bank gives you a low, wide angle that captures both the bridge and its mirror image; a wide-angle lens in the 16-35mm range works well here. Shoot at blue hour first to retain some sky detail before full darkness, then stay for the full light show as colors cycle through. The bridge deck itself also offers elevated views up and down the river corridor. Street parking is available near both riverbanks. (Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States)
