About Lucille's Historic Highway Gas Station
Lucille's Historic Highway Gas Station has been sitting along an old section of Route 66, overlooking the highway since the late 1920s. Its official name is the Provine Service Station, though almost nobody uses it. Lucille Hamons ran the place from 1941 until she died in 2000, and her name stuck with it. The upper floor was living quarters that stretched out over the service bay. It is one of only two stations of that shape left on Oklahoma's Route 66. Shoot it head on from the road first and let the old gas pumps give pops of colour against the crisp white paint of the station. Moving off to one side lets you highlight its unique shape and open up some depth. Big prairie sky sits behind it, adding a that crisp blue makes amazing contrast to the small white building. Spring storms roll through here and change the mood completely. A historical marker and a Route 66 monument stand on the lot as well. The building is not open inside, but the grounds are free to explore. It does not sell fuel any more. Watch the signs carefully as you get close because a separate restaurant named after Lucille sits down the road in Weatherford. (Hydro, Oklahoma, USA)
