Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan is a mosque that was designed to blend Ottoman and Malay architectural styles with a heavy influence from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. It sits on a five hectare site surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and a moat. The building has 22 domes clad in turquoise glazed tiles, two tall minarets, and a marble courtyard at the entrance that is clean, open, and photographs well on its own. Inside, the main prayer hall is bright and peaceful. Natural light fills the space through the central dome, which has a sandstone tone with sky blue detailing around the rim adding to the peaceful. The floors are marble, and the walls feature intricate calligraphy, geometric patterns, semi precious stone inlays, and carved wood. The outdoor corridors with their rows of columns and views of the domes against the sky are one of the stronger compositions here. Non Muslim visitors are welcome outside of prayer times, typically between 10am and 5pm. Avoid Friday noon prayers when the mosque is busiest. Free guided tours start at Entrance B, robes and headscarves are provided at no charge if needed. Photography is allowed in designated areas, and the guides are generally happy to point out good spots. Mornings tend to be quieter. Late afternoon light works well on the turquoise domes and the marble surfaces. The mosque is a bit outside the main tourist area, near the Federal Government Complex, but it is easy to reach by car or rideshare. (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
