McKinley Bridge is a historic steel truss bridge spanning the Mississippi River, offering strong industrial geometry and wide open river views that reward photographers willing to explore both ends. The bridge's repeating truss framework makes it ideal for compression shots using a longer focal length, around 70-200mm, to stack the steel spans into a dense pattern of lines and angles. You can also walk onto the bridge itself for leading line compositions stretching toward the opposite bank, with the river and sky opening up on either side. Sunrise is the best time to visit, when warm light catches the steel structure and mist often sits low over the water. The Missouri side gives you a cleaner approach and better parking, while the Illinois side offers a wider perspective looking back at the full bridge span against the St. Louis skyline in the distance.
