About Melagavi Lighthouse
Melagavi Lighthouse is a stone lighthouse built in 1897 that sits perched on the cliffs at the western tip of the Perachora peninsula. It features a unique design features a square tower sitting on top of the low stone building and has guiding ships toward the Corinth Canal for more than a century. From the cliff edge you look out over the Gulf of Corinth, and on clear day you can see the mountains lining the far shore. Because the lighthouse sits at the western tip, the sun sets over the water right beyond it so it is an amazing spot to experiment with sunset photography. You can pause as you walk toward the lighthouse and silhouette the tower against the amazing colours of the evening sky. Earlier in the afternoon, the low sun lights up the stone and the rocky coastline around it. There is lots of space to move along the cliffs and find just the right angles to match your shooting style. There is lots of parking and an easy to follow the path that should only take you about about 15 minutes of walking. Just before the lighthouse, a side path to the left leads to a good sunset spot.
