About Mole Antonelliana

The Mole Antonelliana is a major landmark building named after its architect, Alessandro Antonelli. A mole in Italian is a building of monumental proportions. Construction began in 1863, soon after Italian unification, and was completed in 1889. With a height of 167.5 metres, it was the tallest brick building in Europe at the time. It was initially designed as a synagogue, before being bought by the Municipality of Turin and made into a monument to national unity. (Turin, Italy)
