About Molo di Cefalù
Molo di Cefalù is a scenic pier running out into the bay from the old port beside Piazza Marina. From the end you see a row of old stone houses built right on the water, with small balconies hanging out over the sea. The cathedral's two yellow stone towers rise behind them, and above everything sits La Rocca, a big limestone crag with green scrub on its slopes. All three of these pieces work together to create incredible composition options. This shooting location works well with both a simple kit revolving around a standard zoom to focus on capturing the full waterfront. Or if you have a wider variety of lenses in your kit you can experiment with using a variety of longer lenses to stack the houses, cathedral and rock into layered shots. Colourful fishing boats sit on the little beach beside the pier and make a good shooting subject all on their own. The historic architecture overlooking the shoreline is filled with unique features, especially the archways, to highlight. Midday sun is harsh on the pale stone and bounces off the water, so aim for late afternoon into sunset. In summer the pier fills with swimmers and tourists who want to take in the beautiful sunset views, so come early if you want lots of space to yourself. Make sure to give yourself extra time to venture up to the stop cathedral and wander the streets of the old town. (Cefalù, Sicily, Italy)
