Monumento a la Patria (Monument to the Fatherland) is a unique sculpture sitting in the middle of a roundabout depicting Mexican history from the Mayans to modern day. There are more than 300 hand-carved figures, which represent the history of Mexico from the founding of Tenochtitlán, until the middle of the 20th century. You can also find, on the facades of the monument, figures that allude to the Mayan culture, such as a Chacmool, a ceiba tree guarded by butterflies, jaguars and the city's shield. (Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico)
