Morven Cemetery

Morven Cemetery sits along Fralick Road in the little hamlet of Morven, as an amazing little gem of times past. Weathered nineteenth century headstones carry the names of families who cleared this corner of Ontario, some marking lives that began around 1800. The grounds are dotted with historic gravestones so it's worth taking your time and exploring before deciding where to set up. Working close to the stones with their decades of weathering lets you play around with macro work and shallow depth of field. Early morning or late evening sun spreads across the carved inscriptions and lifts every letter, while an overcast day gives you moodier, almost eerie frames. Autumn and fog both flatter a rural cemetery. Keep in mind this cemetery is still active, so time your visit respectfully and give any service plenty of space.
